1973 - 1974 Student of computer science at Kansas State University, USA, granted by Rotary International Foundation. 
1976 Diploma (equiv. M.S. degree) in mathematics at Univ. Saarbrücken, Dept. Computer Science. Thesis on "Complexity of boolean networks and Turing machines".  (cf. diploma certificate)
1976 - 1980 Teaching assistant at Univ. Saarbrücken, Inst. f. Information Systems (IWi). System analysis, data bases, simulation techniques.
1980 - 1981 System analyst and programmer at controller's department of Cologne insurance company. Statistics, corporate planning.
1982 - 1988 Neuroanatomy research at Univ. Göttingen, Dept. Medicine, supported by German Science Foundation (DFG). Computer simulation models of neuronal growth. Several publications.
